The PC to TV Connection (Worldofcables)

Worldofcables (Santa Clara, CA) & Cablewholesale-Playing computer games, watch downloaded movies or any other facts on a computer is great. Would it be better if you could use your new 42 "HDTV as a screen instead of your little 17 "computer screen? Its hard to resist such calls, but connecting a computer to a TV Not always as easy as one might wish. In fact, "How can I connect my computer to my TV is one of most common questions we receive on our technical support lines. Sometimes it can be as simple as a single cable, but more often than not, the link between these two devices need a converter. In this article we will examine all options for connecting a PC to a TV.

Computers with a VGA output

Assuming your computer has a VGA input, then connection is easier if your TV also has an entry PC VGA. This is the standard VGA video output from one computer to the same connection on a TV. Many recent TVs, including HDTVs, have in this regard. If your TV has this input, then a simple Super VGA (male to male cable) will do, and give you the best possible video quality.

If your TV does not a VGA input, your next question is where best television has component video input. If yes, a converter is available (our Part Number 40H1-50200) which will convert the VGA signal to component video. (Note that this part only works in one direction; If you need to convert Back Component Video to VGA, you want the part number 40H1-50300). Component video gives you the same high image quality VGA, so it the next best choice after VGA for converting a computer signal. (The two other video options we list below, composite video and S-video, not deliver the cleanest image, and should be used when either VGA or component video are available.) VGA to Component Converter

Converting VGA to component video often causes confusion for customers who ask why a converter is necessary. This confusion is because there is also a cable out there that gives the impression it would do the same use something like VGA to component converter box. VGA to component video cables, such as that shown at right, are often purchased by mistake in an attempt to connect a source computer to a VGA video display component. More on www.worldofcables.com

Cable Component VGA

The reason this cable will not work to convert a computer VGA signal to component video is because the signal and a VGA video signal Component video are very different types of signal. It takes more than a single cable for conversion between the two. This cable is actually designed for be used with projectors that have a certain 15-pin VGA connection is specially designed to be able to accept the video signal component (often called Y / Pb / Pr signal). This design is so that the projector should not have taken to separate the two component video and VGA, saving space (and money). This same dual purpose connector can also be found on the shelf some HDTV decoders.

If you have an older TV set that has no VGA or component video input, then it will most likely be a composite video (yellow RCA jack) and / or an S-video. To convert your VGA video composite or S-video, our room number 41CV-50220 will do. This box allows you to convert your computer's VGA signal to composite or S-video. It also has a VGA output further if you want a VGA monitor your TV and connected at the same time. More on www.worldofcables.com

Computers with DVI output

Any new HDTV has recently released a DVI or HDMI input on it as its digital connection. If this is the case for you to connect your PC to TV is simply a question of choosing a DVI cable (if your TV has a DVI port on it) or an HDMI to DVI cable (if your TV has an HDMI port on it).

So what do you do if your TV does not have DVI or HDMI ports? Well, as it turns out that most computer video cards with DVI them can be easily adapted to a VGA connection using a DVI to VGA simple convert DVI to VGA port. From here you can simply follow the instructions above to connect a VGA output on your TV. More on www.worldofcables.com

What about Audio?

All options listed above are for video signals only. Audio will be managed separately. Fortunately, unlike the video connection, connect the audio from a computer and a TV is simple. Computer sound cards have a 3.5mm (sometimes called A 1 / 8 inch) connection. This is the same connection that you find on headphones or speakers to computer. This signal is easily converted to 2 sockets RCA (red and white) Stereo Connection, which can be plugged into the back of your TV or on the back of your receiver if you have one. Worldofcables offers two versions of this cable, depending on your needs, our quality standards and top quality 3.5mm to two RCA cables are shown in the image on the right.
